Allergies: Allergy is when your immune system mistakes a harmless substance for a dangerous one and triggers the release of chemicals from mast cells into your body, thus creating symptoms like runny nose, sneezing, watery eyes, and itching. When people who have allergies encounter an allergen, their immune system produces antibodies, called IgE antibodies, that are specific to that substance.
