This process generally takes decades to happen, but if you had the shingles in your 40s, and now you are in your 70s or 80s, it is possible. However, you are unlikely to get the shingles more than once in a short time.

Shingles: Most people only Shingles once in a lifetime (if at all). However, it may reoccur. Most cases of shingles last 3 to 5 weeks. Usually 1 to 5 days after one experiences pain/burning in a specific area, a rash with blisters appears. This may take a week to 10 days to dry up & become crusty.
