I'm curious as to what alternatives are there for sunscreen?

Avoid the sun: If you cannot or do not want to wear sunscreen lotion, but still want to stay in the sun, then you must either cover yourself, use an umbrella or stay in covered places. If you expose yourself a little bit at a time, you might develop a tan which can help but remember long term exposure leads to skin problems later in life. Of course you could move to seattle, where the sun is rare.
