Synovial fluid: I have heard the same sound coming from my costosternal joints (where the ribs meet the breastbone) when i twist my torso. This sound has the same cause as popping sounds heard from other joints, such as the knuckles, elbows, or knees. The synovial fluid within the joint space shifts abruptly, creating that sound. It is of no clinical significance.
