Depends: If the fx. Is transverse and truly in the lower 1/3 it may be treated non- operativelly. If it is transverse mid1/3 in a 40yr old the treatment of choice is orif ( tension band w/ k wires or screws). See your ors for evaluation.

Fracture first: Knee immobilizer for knee for fracture. Possible needle aspiration of blood in the joint. May need surgical fixation of fracture for quicker recovery and better long-term result, especially if fracture displaces in knee immobilizer.
