Medical Treatment: I would advise a step back and a look at how healing happens in life. Healing is not just taking a pill for every problem or feeling. The appropriate treatment for anxiety is often not medication related but in learning, talking, and practicing behaviors and other things such as exercise and yoga. Pills are often not the answer when one wants true healing.

I would: 50% of patients with bipolar disorder suffer from generalized anxiety disorder. Not treating this destabilize the bipolar disorder and makes it much more difficult to treat. Personally i favor the use of low-dose clonopin for this. Another option of course is Buspar (buspirone) mission which has the advantage of not having any addictive potential. In reality, in the group of patients with generalized anxiety disorder i find that i rarely run into difficulties with overuse of klonopin. I'm not going to say that i've never seen it but that it is relatively uncommon because people with generalizing anxiety disorder are simply anxious when it comes to taking medications.
