Swelling on the lower scrotum - testicular cancer or std? how can you tell?

See your doctor.: Cancer can be a cause for this. Painless testicular mass is the classic sign. But mumps can cause enlargement of one testicle, and many std's can cause enlargement of the inguinal area, and/or epididymitis, which might cause scrotal swelling. It can also be a hydrocele or fluid which is harmless. That's why you should see your doctor to get tests to be sure.

Cannot be sure: Scrotal swelling can be infections, inflammatory, hydrocoele, varicocoele, or tumor (cancer). The symptoms are quite different for each. Pain, fever, chills, redness, burning, tenderness, and ulceration are all different signs and symptoms. Cancer is usually a painless enlargement. Evaluation by a urologist is best in this setting.

Scrotal swelling can: Be internal, from hernia, to lipomas of cord, varicocoels, cycsts of testes and epidydimus, or external, skin infections more commonly in diabetics. Std's, herpes, condyloma or not very common.
