Is it safe to travel by airplane during pregnancy?

Dr. Sheila Goodman answered

Yes: In an uncomplicated pregnancy, it is generally safe to travel up until about the last month. Travel above 10, 000 ft in an unpressurized cabin can cause problems with the placenta. Sitting for prolonged periods in an airplane can increase your risk of blood clots in your legs so getting up every 2 hours is important.

Heavy weightlifting: In general, exercise in pregnancy is not only safe, but offers health benefits. We suggest avoiding oxygen-depriving exercises like heavy weightlifting or marathon running. Two great rules of thumb while working out: keep your pulse rate under 140 or maintain the ability to converse with your exercise partner!
