IRRITATION:: From urine, stool; friction from diaper are common causes. Make sure to change diaper soon after voiding or bowel movement. Clean with lukewarm water, dry dabbing with cotton cloth, keep off diaper for an hour after cleaning. Can use decitin or Hydrocortisone 1% on the red area. If any worsening, see his pediatrician.

Barrier cream OK: However, fresh air is often all you need for minor "redness" to disappear. You could leave him out of nappies/diapers for a couple of hours. Try to lay him on a towel ; place towels around the crib so his pee doesn't go everywhere.
