Depends: Depends on the reason for lateral release( kneecap instability, ? Kneecap pain, etc) and your present symptoms and physical exam. Would need to examine your knee , look @ your previous arthroscopic photos and then be able to recommend the best course of action.... Good luck!

Lateral release: You would need to reconsult you surgeon since he or she already knows the status of your joint.
