See Plastic surgeon: There are many variations or presentations of a duplicated digit, with some requiring minimal surgery to others requiring fairly complex reconstruction to improve the function of the hand.Your child's hand/plastic surgeon will be able to let you know the potential risks, benefits and limitations of the proposed surgery. In almost all cases function primarily and aesthetics secondarily are improved.
