Why?: There are plenty of natural, inexpensive, already formulated toothpastes already available. If you have special needs or restrictions, i'm sure your own dentist can direct you one that can satisfy your requirements.

ADA Seal is the best: The home made toothpaste is not recommended by dentists. Always look for the ADA (American Dental Association) Seal toothpaste to insure that the product has been objectively evaluated for safety and effectiveness. Good luck.

Why?: Toothpaste is relatively inexpensive. As a consumer product its is safe and reliable, made without risk of contaminants. There's a safety factor involved if you try to make it yourself. And if the package has the ADA Seal of Acceptance on it, it means that the claims made on the package have been tested to be true and accurate.
