Before being licensed as a specialist you must complete college, complete 10, 000+ hours of dental school, complete 5, 000+ hours of a specialty residency in orthodontics, and pass all of the licensing examinations. Only then will you be legally permitted to make treatment decisions. Best advice, follow your orthodontist's instructions.
