Can eczema (i have been scratching) be the cause of a rather big open sore on the front of lower leg? leg swollen tender and red around the wound.

Don't scratch!: I know... That is much easier said than done. But it is still true. If it is bad , see a dr. Anyway, you do need to prevent infection. Wash delicately w/ warm water. Use antibiotic cream, cover lightly. After that is resolved, obtain as effective as possible cortisone ointment to keep the itching under control. Eczema can be very difficult to eradicate, but it can be controlled. Don't scratch!
