Infection: Usually a viral infection, sometimes bacterial. Could be blepharitis. If no better in a week, see an ophthalmologist. If you wear contact lenses, see one now.

Conjunctivitis: Sounds like it could be conjunctivitis, possibly bacterial given that discharge. You may need an antibiotic drop. If your eye gets stuck shut, again it could be bacterial in origin. If not, maybe viral or allergic.
