Stye: A stye is an inflamed oil gland on the edge of your eyelid, where the lash meets the lid. It appears as a red, swollen bump that looks like a pimple. It is often tender.Treatment starts with heating for ten minutes to thin the oil and then trying to squeeze it out. If not successful in draining it, one goes to the eye md for surgical drainage. Rosacea is a risk factor.

Infection?: Sometimes a stye or hordeolum as the medical types call it can become infected or chronically inflamed. Swelling, redness, pus and pain may increase as this occurs. I would strongly advise seeing an ophthalmologist. I have seen a patient who developed a preseptal cellulitis. This can require systemic antibiotics. See your eye doc!
