Go back to your doc: The first step in fixing any problem is an accurate diagnosis. If the swelling has gone away but the pain is continueing it is time to go back to your doctor and get rechecked. This could be as simple as requiring more time to heal or you could have an additional problem such as chondromalacia ( a roughening of the underside of the kneecap) or a joint/ tendon injury.

Further veal: Get re-examined, you may need physical therapy, steroid injection(s) or diagnostic workup like and MRI to see if there is just more than a bursitis going on.
