Very few: For the amount of radioactive iodine used to test for thyroid problems, there are no precautions other than to make sure that you are not pregnant (unlikely at age 59). The dose given is so small, you do not need to worry about other effects. You should not have had an injection with contrast material over the previous 2 months, otherwise the test may not work.
