my son is 9. fell on his knee to hard surface. swollen and favoring. how can i tell if broken? 200mg ibuprofen ineffective? anything else i can give

Get x-ray.: If he is having difficulty standing on it, or cannot fully bend or straighten, you need to get it evaluated. Children also have growth plates, and can fracture through them. If suspicious, please see a doctor, and discuss the need for an x-ray.
