Metabolic syndromes: In some clinical trials, nizatidine, amantadine, reboxetine, topiramate, sibutramine and metformin proved effective in preventing or reversing atypical antipsychotic-induced bodyweight gain. If weight gain occurs after second-generation antipsychotic initiation, despite lifestyle intervention, metformin should be considered (newall et al 2012) newer drugs may offer less weight gain.
