Sometimes: While the usual dose of Claritin (loratadine) is 10 mg once a day, there are circumstances where allergists may use higher doses to treat persistent hives. Drowsiness in more likely to occur with higher than recommended doses of claritin, (loratadine) but in general, severe or significant side effects are unlikely.
