Is it possible for you to refrigerate sausage balls while still warm?

Yes: Either the food cools on the table or in the fridge. It is an old wives' tale that foods can cool "too fast" or get contaminated / grow bacteria if put into reefer while hot. (With apologies to my Grandma).
