Sometimes: If you have ingrown hairs try not to wax, shave or pluck hairs until healed. This can often heal without treatment. Your physician can prescribe medication to clear dead skin cells (retinoids). Steroids may be used for significant inflammation & antibiotics may be considered if the area has become infected.

Ingrown hair: As long as it has not developed into a large pus pocket, you may carefully try to free the entraped hair by cleansing with rubbing alcohol and using a sterilized needle to unroof the trapped hair. If this does not work or if there is significan infection, then you should see a doctor.

Exfoliate and warm: First bet is to allow nature to take its course. If it doesn't naturally come out as the skin turns over, gently exfoliate with microbeads (not nut scrubs, too harsh), then warm in steam or compresses to expand the pore, then gently try to pluck it out with tweezers without scarring surrounding skin. A dermatologist can do this professionally without scars. Also prevent recurrence - laser hair.
