Complete blood count: CBC = complete blood count. The test looks at your red cells, white cells and platelets only. It can show if you have abnormalities in these particular cells. It is usually not a cancer test (unless you are looking for leukemia or myeloma).

But if a doctor suspects a different type of cancer, he or she will usually order an imaging study, like a ct scan or an ultrasound.

Agree with prior: A CBC is great to sometimes catch cancer, but as mentioned it is specific to blood cancers. It is not the best test for some of those as well! there are also some blood tests that could suggest there is a cancer hiding but even those are not perfect. Good routine screening is the best bet!
