Help please! could carafate (sucralfate) help a hiatal hernia?

Not really: A sliding type hiatal hernia is associated with reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus. The acid causes burning sensation described as "heartburn", sometimes an intense pressure sensation like angina. Carafate (sucralfate) coats the stomach lining to help shield the mucosa from acid. Itwould not effectively protect the esophagus. You need a proton pump inhibitor or h2 blocker to reduce acid.
