Depends: Pregnancy can progress normally with a placenta that is marginal during the stress of contractions. The common "stress test" is designed to bring out this vulnerability. The monitor should show some influence of contractions on babies heart rate with good recovery between contractions.When this sensitive indicator shows poor baby response, a surgical delivery is often needed.
