Ear piercing: The reason I do not recommend that people have an ear piercing through the cartilage its at the cartilage has no blood supply so if you develop infection it may be hard to have it heal. You should follow the instructions carefully of whomever pierced your ear. Remember to wash your hands before you do the wound care which should be done twice a day.

Don't do it: I strongly discourage any piecing through cartilage. Although many people have gotten away with it, others have experienced severe pain during the piercing and some have gotten serious infections resulting in potentially defigurement of the ear. Cartilage heals poorly due to its poor blood supply.
