A member asked:

Can i drink a few beers if i am on 150 mg xl. i usually drink twice a year at most will consuming a few beers 5 hours before wellbutrin (bupropion) hurt?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Some warnings.: Generally drinking is not advised while someone is taking an antidepressant. Having said that however, it is well known that people on antidepressants can and do drink periodically. If you were on an ssri i would say definitely no alcohol. I am not recommending anything to you. I am simply telling you what i tell patients in my practice who are on wellbutrin (bupropion) but not an ssri. Limit the alcohol to one drink only, two at the max absolutely. Do not drink and drive with the combination in your system and remember that the antidepressant is still in your system even though you took it much earlier.Make sure you have a friend to drive you home if necessary and also to monitor your behavior in the rear event that there would be any change from one or two drinks. Do not drink any more than that however. That is the standard spiel i tell my patients. Other clinicians may disagree and i would be happy to hear their recommendations.None of my patients have ever been harmed by following those rules with the antidepressant you are on.
