Prolapse and thick: Mitral valve prolapse does not have to have thickened leaflets. As the leaflets thicken you could get stenosis but your cardiologist will follow you closely. If you develop enough thickening they need to refer you to a surgeon for possible repair or replacement of the valve. Most valves can be repaired with excellent long term results.
