Standard eval: Blood tests are useful if one is considering infection, inflammatory disease, but these tests do not reveal anything about the mechanical issues that can produce back pain, such as disc degeneration or herniation, arthritis involving the joints, and other conditions. Mri of the back is very useful to identify potentially treatable conditions of the back.
