Possible fungus: There are different types of fungal infections of the nails. One type is called a "superficial white onychomycosis" which just so happens to be the easiest variety to eradicate. Usually a topical anti-fungal medication as well as treating of the shoes will solve the problem. White could also be from prolonged use of nail polish or repeated use of nail polish remover. I would have your nails looked.
