A member asked:

In a normal aortic valve, what stops the valve cusps from opening too much? or do they just open against the aortic walls?

Correct to a degree: They are like a parachute and open widely to a maximum length, but not quite to the adjoining wall, of aorta, so there is flow behind to the coronary orifices. More like a sheet floating in the wind.
