Risk benefit: Generally speaking chance of relapse after a first episode is 50%, after second 70% and after third 90%. Risks of being on include cost of med, side effects and withdrawal if missed. At age 23 with one episode a slow wean is reasonable but continue to follow-up with your prescriber for a year afterward to look for early signs of relapse. Follow-up should continue even off meds to encourage healthy lifestyle to prevent relapse.
