Groin rash: See your doctor or dermatologist for evaluation and treatment. The area should be examined and cultured for bacteria and fungus (which includes yeast). After evaluation appropriate treatment can be given.There are other more unusual causes of such a rash.

See a doc today: "nasty" and "really hurts" along with sloughing off" doesn't sound like a problem to be delayed addressing, especially if it's in the groin area and if someone may have other complicating illnesses such as diabetes . Have it looked at immediately at you doctor's office now; if you can't, i would consider visiting an urgent care center or ed.
