A member asked:

What could be causing my random swelling of the knee, at varying time intervals?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possibly gout.: Gout usually presents with swelling of the great toe, but it can occur in other joints as well, like the knee. It is really painful, and has swelling, and can have fever. This comes at times and can last days to weeks. Many other things can cause knee swelling, and a visit to the doctor for aspiration of the joint is a good first step to rule out things like septic arthritis.
