Possible infected cy: He should see a dermatologist to see if the lesion needs to be drained. Before that soaks with warm water done twice daily would be helpful.

Improving...: An infected skin cyst is something your gp can treat or drain as necessary. You do not need a dermatologist and the higher expense involved. If it is an cyst, it may be starting to recover on its own now that it is draining spontanously. Treat with warm compresses. If pain worsens, or if redness spreads around it, see your gp.
