Hormones: When a women has an irregular period and breakthrough bleeding, it's typically the result of hormonal imbalances. Sometimes it can be too much progesterone, or too much estrogen. Sometimes it can be a thyroid imbalance or extremes of weight (thin/heavy). If it bothers you, consider birth control pills to help regulate or see doctor for evaluation.
