A member asked:

Would pristiq (desvenlafaxine) and strattera be an effective combo for major depressive disorder and adult adhd? stimulants have helped but too many side effects.

Yes: It is worth a try if the side effects of the standard psychostimulants are intolerable. The strattera dose would have to be started low and titrated slowly because Cymbalta (duloxetine) inhibits the. Liver enzyme that chews up strattera. As a result, the strattera blood level can climb significantly. You will therefor likely be maintained on a lower dose than most adults. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) Strattera: Depression can cause long term fatigue, lack of energy at times difficult to improve till a stimulant is added. Strattera (atomoxetine) is a weak stimulant but can help improve energy, if not Ritalin or Adderall can be added, if the patient does not have a cardiac problem.

Not a rational combo: Both Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) and strattera have nri. Increased risk of adverse side effects. Would be better to add ssri to strattera. For adhd, Guanfacine may be effective.

Pristiq/Strattera: Safe, if Strattera is taken in morning & Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) at night. Review with your doctor.
