Diet/reflux/stress: Black tinged mucous sounds like old blood. That would me from a slow bleeding ulcer. It also sounds like you might have acid reflux where the stomach acid goes back up thru the esophagus. This will result jn bad heartburn , and if it the acid refluxes all the way to the lung you can have asthma like symptoms or that may be what is causing the black mucous.

Black mucus: If you are spitting up black mucus from your lungs, or from your stomach it is never normal. The black mucus may be blood. You need to see your doctor about this very soon. You may have a stomach ulcer or other. Meanwhile try something like chewing a few Tums to see if it helps heart burn. You can repeat this 4 or 5 times per day. Also try Pepcid (famotidine) you can buy over the counter. See doctor asap.
