Nuclear scan: Dmsa-tc 99m scan can visualize area of an active inflammation and damaged area from previous infection(renal scar) as well.

To see any damage : The test is done by injecting the baby with Technetium 99m DMSA and after an hour taking a nuclear image of the baby's back. They ordered it to make sure that the infection has been completely eliminated by the antibx. Also they want to see how well the each kidney is working (see any scars in the kidney tissue) competed to the other kidney. This is called the split renal function.
