Depends: Arthroscopy is commonly indicated when a patient with mild xray degenerative changes has symptoms, clinical exam findings, and MRI findings consistent with a symptomatic meniscus tear. Arthroscopy can also be used to remove loose bodies, stimulate the regrowth of a type of cartilage on the articular surface, or to reconstruct ligaments such as the acl or pcl.
