One day at a time: Although your thoughts dictate your actions, it's important to realize that the reverse of this is also true. That is, your words and actions can greatly influence your thoughts, and steer your mind in another direction. And as soon as you get your mind off of alcohol you'll be less likely to drink it later on in the day. "thoughts become purpose, purpose become actions, actions become habit".

CAGE: Is it hard to stop at one drink when you imbibe? A sense that you cannot do so and feel a loss of control about quantity ingested. If others have confronted you, how do you respond? Angry, dismissive, exclude them from your social circle. Do you feel guilty about how much you are drinking? Do you ever ingest in the morning - eye openers? If positive to two or more, you may be alcohol addicted.

You certainly may have an addiction. Most people do not constantly think about alcohol. I suggest you seek out and attend some AA meetings to learn more about why you are pre-occupied with drinking alcohol. Check out: www.aa.org Good luck

Possibly: The addictive personality means that you can easily fall prey to substitute drugs especially those that give you similar effects and your best recourse here is to just say no. I have good results in helping overcome cravings by using lavendar, peppermint and citrus essential oils in combo inhaled from the hand. The lavender is strong as Xanax (alprazolam) www.Medac4u.Com.

It depends: All alcohol should be consumed in moderation. Some studies have demonstrated benefits from the antioxidants in red wines in particular. These benefits are entirely negated if people overindulge.

No: There are 4 approved medications to reduce craving for alcohol - acamprosate (campral) is a pill taken 3 times a day; Naltrexone (revia) is a pill taken once a day, and vivitrol is a long-acting form of Naltrexone which is injected once every 4 weeks. The fourth is the oldest- antabuse, (disulfiram) a pill which will cause nausea, vomiting, headache and other symptoms if you drink on top of it.

Excellent question: Probably because they have a longer history of use and are more socially acceptable. But both tobacco and alcohol cause a tremendous amount of disease and are by no means safe.

As a general rule in terms of alcohol content, one beer is equivalent to one glass of non-fortified wine or one shot of liquor. So if one is drinking a lot of beer, one is drinking a lot of alcohol.
