Pleuritic......: This type of chest pain is called pleuritic chest pain and can be caused by many different problems including pneumonia, asthma, bronchitis, rib contusion/fracture, collapsed lung, blood clot in the lung, etc. In general, if you have associated shortness of breath and/or a fever, then you should go to the er as some of the above diagnoses are life-threatening. If unsure, be cautious and go to er.
