A member asked:

Can e-coli in the vagina be treated with antibiotics, and will my sexual partner need to get tested for it?

E coli: E coli is not an std. It is a normal bacteria found in the gut. Get checked to make sure you don't have anything out of the ordinary concerning your vaginal/rectal anatomy. Also behaviors such as anal sex followed by vaginal sex can introduce e coli into the vagina. Talk with your doctor.

No: E. Coli can colonize the vagina. It rarely causes any problems there. Contacts do not need treatment. Remember e. Coli is normal intestinal flora.
