How bad ?: How much bone loss? Is the problem now under control? The answer is a difficult one, not cut and dry, and depends on the current dental health of the patient. Yes, it is possible, under certain situations, and with the proper orthodontist. Please consult with a local specialist to see if you qualify.

Yes but: Yes you can have orthodontic treatment done to have your teeth straightened , but it really depends on your oral hygiene habits and how much bone you lost due to the periodontal problems that you had.

Simple rule: Any gum disease or periodontitis must be brought under control before orthodontic treatment.
