A member asked:

How long do you have to be hyperthyroid to suffer the serious side affects? for example osteoporosis, etc.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

months to years: Osteoporosis takes years to develop, but heart problems such as atrial fibrillation can develop rapidly with hyperthyroidism. Also, muscle weakness, hair and skin changes. If you have a significantly overactive thyroid, it should be treated.
