Hard to say: It is hard to say, there a number of possibilities and you may want to be checked. In my field of spinal surgery, coughing is known to increase the pressure in the spinal canal. And so, if a patient has a "pinched nerve" in their neck or back coughing can sometimes cause pain in their extremity. There are many other causes and an exam and more detailed history can usually determine the cause.
