Could: If the thumb is unstable and you have more play (movement) in the thumb joints then arthritis can set in. Dislocation causes the thumb to be unstable and other problems apart from arthritis can occur. The dislocation interfers with the mechanical advantage of the thumb and relates to lingering pain and weakness. This is due to soft tissue problems:tendonitis, bursitis apart from arthritis.
