Yes: During an acute mi (myocardial infarction), efforts will be made to reduce the size of the damaged area by giving antiplatelet drugs, and clot busters. Many patients will have emergency coronary angiogram to open up blocked arteries and place stents to help keep the arteries open. This is why it is important to get to a hospital immediately at the first sign of a mi.
