Why do i get really emotional when i first start my period lately?

?fluid retention: One theory is that premenstrual fluid retention in the brain causes emotional changes. Some women are prescribed mild diuretics a week before their period is due to avoid this brain swelling. Discuss this with your md or gynecologist. Make sure that you take potassium by food or medication when on diuretics.
